BotFactory’s New Mexico Experience

Pushing Boundaries with QStation

BotFactory Inc., Afnan Islam

BotFactory recently joined the QStation cohort in New Mexico, diving into a week filled with innovation, collaboration, and exploration at the forefront of aerospace and defense. QStation, based in Albuquerque, fosters connections between startups, the U.S. Space Force, Air Force, and other tech-forward organizations. Special thanks to the QStation team and their collaborators, including Randy Trask, Fabiola Melendez, Gabe Mounce, Toni Balzano, Alarie Ray-Garcia, Valerie Knight, and Oscar Martinez, for crafting this inspiring experience.

Our journey included visits to New Mexico State University (NMSU) and New Mexico Tech (NMT), where we explored cutting-edge research and met with brilliant innovators in science and technology. Seeing the intersection of academia and industry firsthand underscored how BotFactory’s rapid electronics prototyping can drive forward defense and aerospace technologies, highlighting our role in shaping the future of high-tech manufacturing.

A standout moment was our visit to Spaceport America, home to Virgin Galactic. Experiencing the mothership, spaceship, and control center was incredible, but it also underscored a parallel: while Virgin Galactic leverages microgravity to offer a unique human experience, BotFactory is exploring microgravity as a revolutionary manufacturing environment. This approach could enable us to create electronics that are impossible to produce on Earth, positioning us at the cutting edge of space tech innovation.

At Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), we learned about the critical importance of radiation-hardened electronics, essential for space and defense applications. Our visit reinforced how BotFactory’s additive manufacturing could integrate these processes directly, streamlining production in ways traditional methods cannot. Touring Oppenheimer’s house and the iconic sites of the recent film was a reminder of the legacy of innovation we are building upon.

Being a startup working on groundbreaking deep tech of strategic national importance is no easy task. The road is full of challenges—funding constraints, complex technologies, and an industry not always eager to support. Yet, with the guidance and support of QStation, BotFactory is empowered to rise to the occasion. For us, it’s not just about making electronics—it’s about ensuring that our technologies serve a purpose far beyond the lab, driving national security and redefining what’s possible.
